Facebook STILL full of FAKE review tradings
- Consumer association found that FB has failed to clean up the “trade” in fake product reviews on the platform.
- 3 months ago, the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) warned Facebook and eBay to clean up their act by tackling the sale of fake product reviews on their site.
- On eBay, sellers were offering batches of 5-star product reviews in exchange for cash. Facebook was found hosting multiple groups where members solicited writers of fake reviews in exchange for free products and or cash.
- A follow-up shows significant improvement from eBay. After CMA’s intervention – only 1 listing was found selling 5-star reviews.
- Contrary to this, Facebook has done little to nothing to stop the trade of fake reviews. Dozens of Facebook group continues to encourage incentivized reviews on a huge scale. A simple search in July alone found that 55,000 news post across 9 facebook groups trading fake reviews.
CMA states that it is unacceptable that Facebook Groups are continuing to allow “promotion” of fake reviews. Lots rely on reviews when making a decision whilst shopping online. Henceforth, CMA promises to do more when tackling fake and misleading online reviews.
