Beware…Your Instagram Stories Are Watching You
A insightful read by Business Insider, Picture by Yutong Yuan/Business Insider
A San Francisco startup was recently caught to be secretly saving instagram users information. Millions of Instagram users’ location have been tracked alongside their Instagram stories.
The startup appears to be a marketing firm, known as, Hyp3r. Hyp3r has been scraping huge quantities of data off the Facebook-owned app. The data is then used to build detailed profiles of people’s movement and interest.
This new “scandal” is despite the Cambridge Analytica scandal which happened less than a year ago. The revelation is a stark indication of the fact that Facebook is still struggling. Still struggling to protect its users data from external developers accessing its platform.
The Business Insider spoke with multiple former employees of Hyp3r to learn about the events leading up to the incident. Read more here.
