The Purge: Meme
Yesterday, Instagram conducted yet another one of its infamous purge. However, the target yesterday was specifically directed towards meme accounts.
A Facebook spokesperson released a statement to The Daily Dot justifying the purge, “These accounts were disabled following multiple violations of our policies, including attempted abuse of our internal processes.”
Amongst the misconducts, the accounts allegedly sell and purchase usernames as well as indulge in fraudulent activities to obtain the username of others.
Users on Twitter are quick to point out that many of the memes on those high-profile pages were taken from Reddit or other meme sites without permission. Thus, Instagram’s decision to remove their accounts appears justified.
